One Headline that St. Cloud Homeowners Wouldn’t Write

As soon as St. Cloud homeowners query the web for anything that has to do with home improvements, they quickly learn that the home improvement industry is quick to notice. They’ll do their promotional best to send along the ads they think are likely to get a click. Since “home improvements” is a broad field, lots of ads can be expected.

That may have been responsible for an article from March of 2021 that recently popped into local screens, bearing the bold (and improbable) headline:

10 Home Improvements You Must Tackle This Summer.”

Really! Who would be cheeky enough to propose that there are no fewer than 10 must-do home improvements that every St. Cloud homeowner MUST tackle in a single season? That proposition was silly enough to provoke many a click…but for those who took the bait, its source turned out to be surprising. The named title first appeared in “Today’s Homeowner,” which is Danny Lipford’s usually-reliable website.

A glance at the “10 must-dos” quickly explained the anomaly: it was a headline writer’s simple mistake. Instead of “home improvements,” the list detailed ten summer home maintenance objectives. We might surmise that the headline author is probably an intern who has never owned (or maintained) a home of her/his own, which would explain how the difference between “home improvement” and “home maintenance” wasn’t apparent. Once that writer has come to appreciate the difference between Must-do #1: “Change AC and heating system filters” and an actual home improvement—say, replacing the kitchen splashboards or remodeling the bathroom—a headline like the above would never slip by. At any rate, the resurrected article is actually valuable; here are the maintenance items that Lipford proposed as a comprehensive summertime to-do roster.

And whenever you feel like chatting about the actual home improvements that can make financial sense when planning to put your own St. Cloud home on the market, please don’t hesitate to call!
